Ahhh the holidays while working in retail. It is getting past the point of aggravation for me and getting rather humorous; watching people literally start to freak out. I mean seriously you wait until the last possible minute to buy the hardest to get gift of the year and it is my fault? Ok I understand some people had to wait due to money issues, but honestly those people are usually pretty cool and casual; they are the smart ones with a back up gift always in mind!!!
I have started to notice a few types of last minute shoppers.
There is the screaming irate last minute shopper, this includes throwing their hands up in the air and then losing the kid’s Christmas list due to it; my favorite one actually.
Then there is Mr. Grumpy old man guy…who is convinced that our competitor will have it, only to come back three days later in search of the same item. Nice try dude.
To bribe or not to bribe person. I have had all kinds of people trying to slide me cash on the side to give them a heads up when we get an item in, seriously get a life. You are SOO not worth losing my job over, but it’s funny to watch you suggest this to me.
The people that just don’t even try to find it on their own, they look for you frantically. For a second you feel like a celebrity; but it wears off rather quickly. These people usually turn in to the screaming irate last minute shopper.
And last but not least, the ninja last minute shopper. You don’t even see this guy coming. He just sneaks up behind you, and whispers in your ear “Do you have any Wii’s?” Totally catching you off guard and freaking you out because this guy is always creepy in some sort of fashion.
Lately my job has looked like something off a TV comedy sitcom. And I am very happy tomorrow is my Friday. I am off Christmas Eve and Christmas day (well the store is closed Christmas day). But back to the chaos the day after.
Hope all of you are enjoying you Holiday shopping so far, and if you don’t work in retail. A bit of advice: be cool and casual to the sales people. Better to have patience and be nice then irate and pushy. Cause honestly, it isn’t our fault. We are just the messenger =)
Happy Holidays~
